What to expect from an asbestos inspection
If you are now the duty holder for a property containing asbestos, it is now your responsibility to manage it safely. That starts with arranging an asbestos inspection to get a comprehensive understanding of the placement and condition of any asbestos containing materials from a qualified inspector.
In this blog, we’ll talk you through everything you can expect from your asbestos inspection.
Get a quote
The first step is to reach out to your chosen asbestos company and get a quote for the work. You need to be comfortable with any price that you are agreeing to.
Agree a date
Once you have confirmed your costs, you can agree a date with your chosen surveyor. They should be able to work around your schedule to help minimise disruption to your operations.
Survey day
When the surveyor arrives on your site for the asbestos inspection, they will clearly explain what they need to do. They will also let you know if there is anything they need from you. Depending on the type of survey required, the inspector will need to access all areas of the site, including flooring, ceiling tiles, and insulation.
The surveyor will explain what they are looking for and answer any questions you might have. They’ll take detailed notes of the place, condition and type of any asbestos materials they uncover on the site.
Receive detailed report
Once the site survey has been completed, the inspector will go away and compile their findings into a report. This information can be used to update your asbestos register and will form the basis of your asbestos management plan.
This report should be jargon free and easy to action. It should include plenty of information of what steps you need to follow to ensure your site remains legally compliant and protect the health of every person who lives, works or visits your site.
